Mitie soars to new heights with NATS contract
- Mitie has secured a new five-year multimillion pound contract to deliver integrated facilities management services for NATS, the UK’s leading provider of air traffic control services
- During the five-year contract, Mitie will provide services including engineering, security, cleaning, logistics, energy services and projects
- Mitie will deliver these services UK-wide at a range of sites including main air traffic control service centres, communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) sites, and airports
Mitie has secured a new five-year multimillion pound contract to deliver fully integrated facilities management services for NATS, with the option of extending for a further two years. NATS is the UK’s leading provider of air traffic control services, handling 2.4 million flights and 250 million passengers in UK airspace every year1. Amongst other services, NATS provides air traffic navigation services to aircraft flying through UK controlled airspace and at numerous UK and international airports.
Under the contract Mitie will provide NATS with a suite of FM services, including critical engineering, energy and controls, grounds maintenance, security, logistics, waste management, and cleaning, as well as additional project work. From NATS’ Corporate Technology Centre in Whiteley (Hampshire) to its air traffic control (ATC) centres in Swanwick (Hampshire) and Prestwick (Ayrshire), airport towers at locations such as Heathrow, Stansted, and Glasgow, and even its communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) sites located throughout the country, Mitie will deliver a fully integrated service across the length and breadth of the UK. For example, at NATS’ centres, Mitie will provide engineering services to maintain critical infrastructure that supports around 8,000 flights per day.
Mitie will bring its industry leading technology to the contract, such as its Mozaic software, which optimises workspace performance, giving a full oversight of Mitie’s performance and management of the contract. Mozaic shows key data such as the job status, time to complete, and first-time fix rate for all tasks being undertaken on the contract. Data gathered by the software can be filtered by site, building, and asset, and can be used to generate insights to identify areas for improvement to drive cost efficiencies and service enhancements for NATS.
Using its decarbonisation expertise, Mitie’s ‘Plan Zero’ team will be working on the contract to identify areas for carbon saving, with electric vehicles (EVs) being used by colleagues wherever possible as well as exploring the introduction of sustainable uniforms. By joining Mitie, colleagues on the contract will now be entitled to a wide range of industry leading benefits, including life assurance, free shares in the company, and 24/7 access to a virtual GP.
This win builds on Mitie’s aviation expertise, as it also holds a range of contracts at various UK airports including Heathrow, Manchester, London Gatwick, and Bristol.
Simon Venn, Managing Director, Technical Services, Mitie, said:
“Through our industry leading services, underpinned by our technology-led approach, we are proud to be supporting NATS’ infrastructure and playing our part in keeping its 250 million passengers crossing UK airspace every year safe and secure.”
Tim Bullock, NATS Chief Procurement Officer & Director of Property said:
“Following a thorough tender process and market assessment, we are delighted to be partnering with Mitie for the provision of our Facilities Management services. Their compelling proposition ensures a collaborative approach and smooth transition between our facilities suppliers. This move helps to support our strategy to 2040 by offering a safe service, an inclusive and diverse culture, a carbon-negative future and a sustainable business.”
